Muncaster Castle

Home to the Pennington family since 1208, Muncaster Castle is the jewel in the crown of the Western Lake District. Reputed to be one of the most haunted buildings in United Kingdom and a popular destination for those wanting to take part in a real life ghost sit. Will you be brave enough to spend a night in the Tapestry Room waiting for Tom Fool to make a ghostly appearance? Its not all bumps in the night though, the castle boasts spectacular gardens and the World Owl Center home to the World Owl Trust.

The Ravenglass Railway

Known locally as the La'al Ratty the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a narrow gauge railway that runs for seven miles from the picturesque Cumbrian costal town of Ravenglass up through the beautiful Eskdale valley to Dalegarth Station near the foot of Scafell Pike, England's tallest mountain. The line opened in May 1875 to transport iron ore from a mine near boot down to Ravenglass. The railways oldest locomotive is River Irt, which has parts dating as far back as 1894, with the newest addition being the Douglas Ferreira, which is a diesel-hydraulic built in 2005.
